There are several ways to change
the appearance of the eyes,
which sit at the center of the face.
Among them, epicanthoplasty
plays an important role in adjusting
the distance between the eyes
and improving overall facial balance.
Today, we will take a closer look at
the stage-by-stage recovery and results
by reviewing a real patient case
performed at our clinic.
"What Is Epicanthoplasty?"
Epicanthoplasty is a surgical procedure
that opens the inner corners of the eyes
to create a brighter, more open eye appearance.
It is commonly recommended when:
• Double eyelid surgery alone does not produce sufficient change
• The distance between the eyes is wide,
making the eyes appear smaller or less defined
The surgical approach varies
depending on each individual’s eye shape,
skin elasticity, and the structure of the epicanthal fold.
In the patient’s pre-surgery photo (top),
the space between the eyes appears slightly wide,
making the eyes look smaller in proportion to the face.
In the photo taken 3 weeks after epicanthoplasty (bottom),
the horizontal length of the eyes has increased,
and the distance between the eyes has visibly narrowed.

3 Tissue dissection, repositioning, and suturing
4 Suture removal
At Luho Plastic Surgery,
epicanthoplasty is performed using refined techniques
that conceal scars inward,
making them minimally visible externally.
By reducing the space between the eyes,
a previously dull or closed-off expression
can be transformed into a clearer, more defined look.
"How Long Does Recovery Take?
Recovery from epicanthoplasty"
typically follows the stages below:
1) Early Stage (1–2 weeks)
• Swelling may occur for 3–5 days,
with most swelling subsiding within 1–2 weeks
• Sutures are removed after about one week
• Temporary tightness or foreign-body sensation may be felt
2) Mid Stage (3–6 weeks)
• The eye shape gradually becomes more natural
• Scar color transitions from red
to light pink, then to light brown
• Light makeup becomes possible
3) Late Stage (2–3 months)
• The area settles naturally
• Residual redness continues to fade
